"Based on philosophic traditions over 1000 years old, the Enneagram is a profound, elegant and compassionate approach to people and their relationships. It describes nine basic worldviews and nine ways of doing business. Each of the nine personality types is something of a pathway through life, with likely obstacles and pitfalls along the way. Each style has its own natural gifts, limitations, blind spots, its own distinctive ways of thinking, acting and being." (Michael Goldberg) "The Enneagram (pronounced any-a-gram) acknowledges that each of us is unique, yet it identifies certain distinctive patterns of behaviour. This intriguing and complex personality system analyses how we relate to one another according to our differences and similarities." (Elizabeth Wagele) Unlike any other personality profiling tools we have come across, the Enneagram encourages you to develop into a greater individual, drawing on your own latent talents & skills.
How It Works (adapted from the Enneagram in Parenting by Elizabeth Wagele) According to the Enneagram, each of us possesses elements of all nine types but in varying degrees. However one type is primary and we become proficient at viewing the world from this angle. Despite this, we can learn to become more flexible and balanced by emulating the qualities of the other eight types. We begin a continual journey around the Enneagram by focusing on the four types we have the greatest connection to, our 'wings' and arrows ('heart' and 'stress' points). Leaning unconsciously towards our wings and moving along the arrows (in both directions - along the arrow and against), accounts for many of the variations within each type. For instance a 'four' who leans more towards her 'five' wing may be introverted, while a 'four' who leans more towards her 'three' wings may be more extroverted. We can also move intentionally towards our wings and arrows to strengthen certain traits and abilities. This helps to broaden our experience and to respond appropriately to the circumstances we find ourselves in.
The Nine Enneagram Personality Types - see if you can recognise yourself...................but beware, the enneagram reflects attention and therefore a person's behaviour is not always a good indicator of their type!
